TACTICAL MEDICINE COURSES
2 Day Tactical Casualty Management Course Level I

The course is designed as an introduction to basic emergency medicine and its tactical application. It will cover everything from field expedient CPR to initial emergency treatment of penetrating chest trauma.
Our goal is to provide every student with a basic understanding of basic and emergent situations and the appropriate treatments.
Focus will be on:
-The maintenance of the airway thru the use of manual/artificial airways

-The treatment of major breathing injuries including treatment of gun shot and stab wounds in the chest with the use of occlusive dressings.
-The treatment and management of life threatening/severe bleeding thru the use of pressure dressings, hemostatic agents, and tourniquets.

Course Outline
INITIAL PATIENT ASSESSMENT AND TREATMENT
Primary Survey

  • The primary survey usually involves treating numerous casualties.
  • Procedures performed are for rapid life saving interventions.

Primary Survey Steps

  • Area Security- ensure the area is secure before performing care.
  • Scene Size Up- quick analysis of the scene to determine what type of injuries to expect.
  • Determine Patients Responsiveness/AVPU Method.
  • Airway Assessment and Management
  • Breathing Assessment and Management
  • Circulation Assessment and Management  

SECONDARY SURVEY AND TRIAGE
Secondary Survey

  • The secondary survey involves the identify and treatment all non-life threatening injuries not previously identified on the primary survey.
  • Systematic evaluation of the patient from head to toe utilizing visual signs and palpation.
  • As injuries are identified, proper treatment is rendered.
  • Typically performed after all threats have been controlled.

LEVEL I COURSES FEATURES SECTIONS FOCUSING ON:

  • Airway Injuries- Opening the airway, emergency airways, rescue breathing.
  • Chest Injuries- Identifying pneumothorax and Treating penetrating trauma including stab wounds and gun shot wounds with the use of occlusive dressings and needle decompression.

Requirements:
-No previous medical experience required
-Rifle and pistol with appropriate slings and holsters. All weapon systems must have at least 3 magazines.
-Rental weapons are available
-200 rounds rifle ammo and 100 rounds pistol ammo required. 300 rounds rifle and 200 rounds pistol recommended.
-Please wear loose comfortable clothing.
-All other Equipment will be provided by SOTS







We utilize realistic moulage and trained actors on every course in order accurately portray the injuries and add realism to all training.


Tactical Casualty Management/ Wilderness Medicine Level II

LEVEL II COURSES INCLUDE ALL SECTIONS FOR LEVEL I AND FEATURES SECTIONS FOCUSING ON:

  • Advanced Airway Injury Interventions- Surgical and Field Expedient Cricothyrotomy.
  • Advanced Chest Intervention- Chest seal manipulation and burping and  utilization of field expedient chest tubes.
  • Hemorrhage Control- Ligature and field expedient amputation.
  • Secondary Medical Skill- suturing, IVs, and field expedient medications.
  • Advanced Triage
  • Movement of Casualties- Field expedient litter carries and evacuation.
  • Basic Wilderness movement and survival.
Cost: $250.00 per person.
Law Enforcement/Military Cost: $200.00

DISASTER MEDICINE COURSE


This is a two day course that takes place in the wilderness in the Flagstaff mountains. We will focus on teaching you what you need to look for while rummaging and trading in a post disaster scenario. We will also instruct all students in basic medication dosing.  This course emphasizes thinking on your feet and  proper preparation. Students will walk away with the ability to provide preventative and long term care for casualties in situations in which advanced medical support is impossible.

DISASTER MEDICINE COURSE INCLUDE ALL MEDICAL SECTIONS FROM TACTICAL MEDICINE LEVEL I COURSE AND FEATURES SECTIONS FOCUSING ON:

  • Preventive Medicine- Field Sanitation, water purification, common disease identification, and treatment.
  • Basic Medication Dosing
  • Field Expedient Medications- how to create your own medicine and what to rummage/trade for.
  • Basic and Advanced Hemorrhage Control- Pressure Dressings, Ligature, and Tourniquets
  • Secondary Medical Skill- suturing, IVs, and field expedient medications.
  • Advanced Triage
  • Movement of Casualties- Field expedient litter carries and evacuation.
  • Introduction to Surgical Shooting(time permitting).

URBAN SURVIVAL/BASIC RECONNAISSANCE COURSE

This is a two day course that focuses on Urban Survival in a post disaster scenario. We put together the course using the expertise of survivors of civil wars in Bosnia, Guatemala, and El Salvador, natural disasters including Katrina and South East Asia Tsunami, and Special Operations combat veterans. All techniques taught during the SOTS Urban Survival Course based on Special Operations techniques, SERE principals, MOUT, and the experience of war survivors. This is meant as a follow-up/companion course to the Disaster medicine class we teach. Topics to be covered include:
-Shelter Creation and Scouting
-Urban Shelter Defense and road blocks
-Basic Patrolling and Ambush Skills
-Vehicle movement and patrolling
-Vehicle Appropriation (hot wiring), commandeering,  and Basic Repair
-Resource appropriation
-Water Purification
-Basic energy creation/intro to solar and dynamic power.
-Urban Reconnaissance
-Basic area infiltration and evasion
-Combat Profiling

TACTICAL FIREARMS COURSES

TACTICAL PISTOL/CARBINE LEVEL I: Introduction to Surgical Shooting

Course Description
This course is basic level course designed to give the novice/intermediate shooter the proper Handgun/Rifle fundamentals that will lead to the development of surgical shooting. The goal of this course is to convert the novice shooter to an intermediate/advance shooting level above that of most US military and police operators in a very short time. We do not make this claim lightly and guarantee our results as long as you come with an open mind and a good attitude. This is an off the grid style course. We will be training and moving through the back country. It is recommended that all attendees bring outdoor gear. Training ratio will always be 1 instructor to 2-3 students. We will train 8 hours on day one and 6 hours(4 hours for final review and 2 hours to conduct the SOTG-style shooting qualification) on day 2.

Required Equipment 
A semi-auto handgun chambered in 9mm, .40 cal, or .45 ACP. Carbine chambered in 5.56/.223 through 7.62/.308, Rental weapons are available. Each student should have a minimum of 3 working magazines for each weapon system.

600 rounds of rifle ammunition are required. 1200 recommended.

300 rounds of pistol ammunition are required. 600 recommended.
